Hungarian politicians who were on Sunday evening at the campaign headquarter of UDMR, from Tirgu Mures, were very happy about the first results of the polling made at the end of the vote, as they were showing the Union got the needed percentage for being present in the Parliament.
„UDMR stays as an important political force in Romania. We will have a strong parliamentarian group and we will try to impose the reform in all domains, from the Ministry of Health to developing the infrastructure in the entire country”, declared Marko Bela for NewsIn. The leader of the Union, Marko Bela, thanked those who voted UDMR, the campaign staff and to the press.
He also declared that UDMR has an offer “for the entire Romanian society”. He also wanted to mention that UDMR will fight for the minority rights. “We will fight for enlargement of the minorities rights, especially here in Transylvania, where we all live”, added the UDMR leader.
Marko Bela appreciated in a press release that “the results from elections show UDMR enjoys a consistent support among Hungarians, despite of the disputes and separation attempts, that Hungarians from Transylvania are strongly and continuously in favor of a Unitarian politics of our community. We showed once more that Hungarians are capable of putting their efforts together to reject, with no doubt, any division attempts”.
Marko underlined, in the quoted communicate, that the results obtained obliges Union to “make a full decentralization, for the reform in education and health, for improving the living conditions for every single individuals and their families, to considerably extend the Hungarian community rights, to continue infrastructure development in Transylvania”. “We will, in the future, work for the benefit of Hungarians from Romania and we will not allow others to decide for us, over us!” closed the UDMR leader.
Proposals for post-electoral negotiations
Referring to the future Government, the Chairman of the UDMR, Marko Bela, declared he received signals that the Union is wanted by all parties in a future governing coalition.
“I’ve received, directly or indirectly, signals that all parties would like us part in the coalition”, declared Marko. He also mentioned that he was referring to the public statements made by the representatives of the political organizations, by the President Traian Basescu but also to the “eventual contacts”.
Asked about the political party the Union will more include to regarding the future alliance, Marko answered that the “closest” is PNL, as together with the Union is now part of the Government.
“PNL and UDMR would not be able, on their own, to make the Government right now”, mentioned the leader of the Union, who added that “it will be possible a governmental majority with PDL or PSD”.
He also mentioned among priorities of the Union the creation of a real and profound decentralization process by transferring some institutions from the government to the county or local administration and also by transferring some attributions to the local communities.
An eventual government program that Union will adhere to would have to stipulate, in the UDMR leader vision, a strategy for coherent development of the infrastructure, including in Ardeal where, as per Marko opinion, are “big issues”.
Another UDMR desiderate represents, as per Marko Bela, the continuation of the education and health reform.
Regarding the rights of the minorities, Marko Bela said that the first step will have to be the debate of the law regarding the Status of the national minorities. “One of the parties agreed with this law but afterwards it (the law) failed”, added Marko.
He also added that this opening of the Union towards the parliamentarian parties is due to PRM failure to enter into the Parliament, calling this party “ultra-nationalist” and “xenophobia” and saluting its failure.
The UDMR Chairman declared that it is preferable that the party will be included in the future Government in order to respect the Hungarian electorate will, mentioning that from opposition UDMR cannot have the same influence as other parties. (DIVERS – www.divers.ro)
