The Democratic Union of Hungarians from Romania (UDMR) and the National Council of Hungarians from Romania (NCHR) have announced publicly the joint list of the candidates for the European Parliament;s elections. On the first seats, the eligible ones are Laszlo Tokes (CNMT) and former Euro-parliamentarians Iuliu Winkler and Sogor Csaba (UDMR).
After NCHR announced on Monday, March 23, the list of candidates for Euro-parliament, the UDMR chairman Marko Bela published, two days later, the final list with candidates of the two political organizations.
The list is split as follows: 70% UDMR and 30% NCHR and on the first place is Tokes Laszlo. On the second and third place are Iuliu Winkler and Sogor Csaba, and on the forth place is Szilagyi Zsolt, the vice-chairman of the organization. The next three seats for UDMR are for Kovács Péter, Horváth Anna, Szabó Károly and László János from NCHR takes the eight positions. UDMR can hope, realistically, for three mandates, but with a very good mobilization could obtain even four.
“Today we’ve talked about preparation measured for European Parliament campaign, preparations for UDMR congress held at the end of April (April 25, Cluj-Napoca) and as a first priority the candidates for the European Parliament”, said Marko Bela adding “We can hope for four too, but three we have to have”.
In the next period, the UDMR members will concentrate on modifying the Union program, modification which is about to be adopted at the congress from April” what I want to underline is, as the congress is held before the electoral campaign, for sure an important theme will be the campaign and especially our place and role in the European Union and we will adopt a document for this.
We have a frame-program well prepared since the beginning of the 90’s, some points if are realized we will take them out, some others will be included, but the frame is very stable and adequate”, said the UDMR leader. (DIVERS – www.divers.ro)
