Kelemen Hunor, UDMR candidate for the presidential elections proposes that the Parliament should have two chambers: the chamber of representatives and the chamber of regions. His organization disagrees with the one chamber system.  “In this regard we are convinced that a rethought two chambers system would better answer to Romania’s needs”, says Kelemen Hunor.

The first conference about online communication strategies took place at the end of last week in Tirgu Mures, at the Charity and Education Center Bod Peter. The conference presented besides the online marketing and its efficiency, a study on the modalities young people use the Internet, the online activism and the “cut of autonomy”, gained by the Szekler National Council, respectively the domain .sic.

During the symposium “Stories about Hungary”, organized at the beginning of this week, the Hungarian economist and political scientist Lengyel Laszlo spoke about “The Change of Regime and Its Effects in Central and Eastern Europe”. The German Democratic Forum organizes in Sibiu on October 6-27, in the “Mirror Hall”, an exhibition with the subject “Germans’ schools in Transylvania”. This exhibition reflects the history, importance and education of Germans’ school. It includes 60 panels: 40 large panels with various objects and 20 panels with written texts.

Union’s Representatives Council (of UDMR) adopted on Saturday, September 19, in Tirgu Mures, a statement supporting the Hungarians from Slovakia, expressing their dissatisfaction toward the National Language Law adopted in this country, which restrains minorities’ rights to use the mother tongue in public institutions, informs NewsIn press agency.

After the reunion of the Szecklers’ Land local representatives, Greater Romania Party (PRM) asked the Government to organize a national referendum in the same day with the presidential elections regarding Szecklers’ Land autonomy and to issue an emergency ordinance obliging all the Romanians including those from abroad to come to vote.

The local councilors from Tirgu Mures voted two weeks ago for placing the statue of General Stefan Gusa in the Transylvanian city. Both the Hungarian press and the Hungarian politicians had negative reactions to this decision. A week again the Local Council voted also for placing the statue of writer Suto Andras.

During a recent meeting of the Hungarian Euro-parliamentarians worldwide and of the four parties from the Hungarian parliament, Sogor Csaba, UDMR MEP said: “We should take into account how useful it would be if a representative of Hungarians abroad would be member of the mother country parliament. Bucharest already solved the representation of Romanians from abroad. Our work would be more efficient, if the Hungarian minority from Transylvania would be represented in the Hungarian parliament, so that our voice could be listened “at home”.

According to Evenimentul Zilei almost 400 Roma children, aged between 10 and 16 years, produced 15 short films about their minority, as part of some lessons regarding their ethnic minority. Marko Bela, UDMR president, said that he doesn’t exclude the possibility of supporting Traian Basescu during the second round of the presidential elections to take place this fall. The Hungarian leader mentioned that UDMR will support nobody without some conditions, the decision to support one candidate or another will depend on candidates’ offer toward the Hungarian community.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education started the selection for the scholarships in Romania for the young Romanians from abroad. This way the youngsters from the Romanian communities in the neighboring countries, who want to study in Romania in the school year 2009 – 2010, can start to forward their applications for this selection at Romania’s diplomatic missions.

The number of Roma pupils interested in the special places allocated by the Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation in high schools was very low. Part of the graduates belonging to this minority chooses to use the computerized system of repartition as the rest of the secondary school graduates, because they want to go to certain high school and not to those offering special places.

Benedek Istvan, president of UDMR Tirgu Mures, claimed that there are no bilingual signs on all the streets and asked for eliminating this situation. Benedek made an appeal to all the political parties to respect the bilingual characteristic of Tirgu Mures, underlining that the Local Council decided bilingual signs in Romanian and Hungarian for all the streets in the city.
